Storytelling Basics
I have listened to good storytellers several times during my lifetime and enjoyed not only the story but the art used by the storyteller to keep me involved in the outcome.
When you choose to tell a story to others, here are a few suggestions you might try to get everyone’s attention and keeping them coming back for more.
Tell a story that you enjoy telling and that you believe your audience will find interesting.
Use eye contact and body language effectively.
Use original material
Choose topics your audience will feel you have credibility (personal experiences ideal)
Be passionate in your telling
Use your voice well. Vary tone to create excitement
Review the length of the story. Too long of a story will get your audience restless
Choose a time for telling your story when you will have your audiences full attention.
Select topics you feel will interest your specific audience
Make sure you have a good ending that will help people remember the experience.
